Preeeeeetty

She's just so cute. And sweet. And look, her hair is growing! Isn't it pretty?

Banana-nana

Today Jane woke up screaming from a nap. I felt inside of her mouth and could feel the tip of a sharp tooth in front on the bottom. So when we were having lunch, I figured - hey, she's got a tooth now (sort of), so I handed her a section of my banana.

She took it, looked at me, and then NOM NOM NOM.  It made a mess, of course, but I think she really enjoyed it. She's been trying to chew on her toys, and all the time she gets a hold of something and brings it to her mouth, but this time it had a flavor!

Being the mean mom that I am, I also decided to capture her awesome snot bubble that appeared a few minutes later. This picture's coming back out for her first date, along with maybe a bathtub photo.

I would make it EXTRA large so you can see all of it's beauty, but I do have a shred of decency.  Sort of.

Lastly, check out that knee action!  Jane is a pro at rolling over now, and turning on the spot, but just in the last few days she's been getting the idea that she can use these crazy knobby knee things.  She's not quite sure what to do with them yet, but she has pushed herself up on them a few times.  Way to go, baby!

Hmm?

I swear I don't even pay her to pose like this.

Still pretty congested today, but her fever's gone and she's been playing with toys all day. I think we're almost there (crossing fingers)!

Sleep

When I see Jane sleeping I'm always amazed at how relaxed she can look.  Is it because she wiggles so much when she's awake?

I can tell that she was a little better today.  Her fever wasn't as bad and she didn't whimper much at all.  In fact she was able to play with toys and give us lots of smiles.  I'm glad that she's getting better so quickly.
By the way, this is the second time I've seen her roll onto her stomach to sleep.  I think she's starting to like it.

Sicky

Last night I noticed that Jane sounded a little congested.  Then when she woke up this morning she had a fever and her congestion was much worse.  We took her to the doctor who told us she's got an ear infection in both ears.  Poor girl!  She's been doing these little whimpers all day, like she's trying to tell us she has owies and doesn't feel good.  It's her first real sickness, and as a first time mom it's really heartbreaking to watch.  But her little whimpers are sooo cute.  No one can resist holding her and giving her lots of snuggles when she does them.

I did manage to get her to smile even though she's sick (aided by lots of medicine!).

More fun

Today Jane went with her cousins to the Children's Discovery museum in Salt Lake. We didn't know if Jane would be able to do much, but they had a special area just for babies! Cool!

More cousins?

Jane got to meet her cousins Ian and Abby today!  (Not to mention Uncle Chris and Aunt Camille.  Camille and Ian aren't in the picture... why didn't we think to get a picture of everyone?)

Level 1 Human

Here's a little video of us playing with her. Those giggles are so cute.

August 21

It looks like Jane's tooth went back into hiding.  I didn't even know they could do that.
In the meantime, bring back the smiles!

Tooth watch, Day 2

No, not a good night.  And her naps are all screwed up, too, because if the slightest thing wakes her up during a nap she's up for hours, even if it's only been 15 minutes.  So I patrol the house like Psycho Mom looking for Disturbers of the Peace and then ring their necks, pull out their cords, and gut them if at all possible/ remove batteries.  But I can't really do anything about jagged bone pushing its way through her flesh while she's sleeping.

So she's had very little sleep.  Today she woke up screeching from a nap, way too early, presumably from tooth pain, but after awhile she started to calm down and talk to herself.  Her baby talk has gotten really distinct lately, especially her consonants.  Just within the last couple of days I've really heard some consistent 'mamas' and 'babas.'  So I took a video of her talking to herself after this nap (babababa...) and it's pretty cute.  You can't see anything as it's so dark, but her little voice is so cute.

Once I did get her up from her nap, she seemed pretty happy:

And then I turned on one of her baby movies:

And then she found a book:

And decided to have a snack:

How many people can say they enjoy a book and a movie at the same time?

Teething

Guess who has her first tooth coming in?  I can't believe how she's growing.  Tonight when I laid Jane down for bed she started crying way worse than when I usually lay her down.  It seemed like something was really wrong.  I called Jacque and she suggested teething... and oh boy (i.e. 10 minutes later I was wondering what that sharp thing trying to poke through her gums was).  I had to get Jane back up to give her some medicine, so I set her on the couch and started one of her lullaby/nighttime baby movies. Man, that thing could put me to sleep.  It did calm her right down, but going back to bed was not a welcome idea.  Or staying asleep for very long.

You know what I say?  Bring it on, tooth.

Baby Shows

We've discovered baby shows this week.  I can't believe how Jane likes them!  It's so cute to see her watching them.  She looks to me like she totally understands everything that's going on, like, "Oh, of course, they're on a boat.  Sail that boat!"  Or it could be the lights and music.  Whatever.

August 17

It seems like in this last week she's growing by leaps and bounds - talking a ton, playing on her stomach for long periods of time, opening her mouth really good for the spoon (carrots this week), taking great naps, being an all around perfect baby.  Is this the calm before the storm?  I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts!

Yay!

Jane got to play with her Aunt Erika and Uncle Doug and her cousins while Mommy and Daddy got to go see a movie today!  It was my 4th movie since Jane was born.  (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World).  Thanks, Barneys!

p.s. I forgot to tell you when I was at the store on Saturday, a lady stopped me and said, "You make GOOD BABIES!" while ogling Jane.  It was only a little awkward... like what response should I have given?  "Well it's due to this great uterus of mine!"  I think that would have matched her comment pretty well.  Or maybe, "Just doing my civic duty."

Just kidding, she was way nice and I thanked her.

Michael sneezes and Jane sings

We went onto the back patio to take some pictures of Jane. I also happened to catch Michael in a sneeze without realizing it. Jane's a true professional, and just kept modeling.  Check out both of their faces in the following photos.

Also: Jane sings!  I promise it's not her normal baby talk.  I was making dinner and singing some songs in the kitchen, and Jane does these long drawn-out vocalizations... way longer than when she's just playing and talking to herself.  So I grabbed the camera and tried to catch a little.

It's like the cutest thing I've ever heard.

Little hacker

First of all, I don't know how she managed to get that cloth book on her back.

Second of all, WHEN did she learn how to use a computer?!!

Maybe she just couldn't take anymore Hello Dolly.

Almost crawling

She's not crawling yet, but she can turn in a circle in one spot. When you combine that with rolling over, sometimes we leave a room and come back and she's in a completely different spot and position. It's probably time to get the house ready for a baby on the move!

They say to set a toy just out of reach in front of the baby so they can learn to reach and move for it, but it just kills me to see her struggle and get frustrated. I think she'll get the idea even without the torture.

Headway

She's holding her head up like a pro these days, able to sit on her stomach for long periods of time and hold her head up to play with toys.  And she's in that position a lot since she's rolling over like it's going out of style.

These following pictures are actually from last night.  Jane has gotten a new habit lately, she likes to reach her hand up while we're giving her a bottle and touch our faces with her fingers.  It's cute when it's not painful.

Transport

I took this just as she started beaming up to the ship. You can see her hand starting to go.

By the way, I took this right before she rolled off the couch.

WORST MOTHER EVER.

I have to go crawl in a hole now.

They're just so cute.

Re-birthday

Even though Michael's birthday was two weeks ago, we celebrated it with his parents tonight. We had a yummy dinner and Michael got awesome new shoes! Yay!

August 6

I hadn't dressed Jane in this outfit yet. I think it's a hand-me-down from Eden. Jane took forever to get out of her 0-3 month clothes, and then she rocketed through her 3-6 month clothes in a month. Now they are getting tight on her. She's growing like a weed!

Lovely locks

When Jane went through a growth spurt two months ago her hair really thinned out, so we were excited last week when we noticed that it's starting to fill in with tiny silky hairs. She was born with thick dark brown hair, but now it's a light sandy blonde. My mom said this is the color of hair that I had as a baby.

What do you think?

Fun with Daddy

Jane has been having lots of fun with her Daddy today.

First, she helped him get the badguys!

Then she rode on Daddy's shoulders around the backyard:

Good thing she had his hair to hold on to.

But it's always nice to snuggle with mommy after so much fun.
