Whine and kisses

When I took this I said, "Hey, why aren't there any cute pictures of Jane and ME lately?"
Michael said, "Because you're the one behind the camera all the time."
Well that's easily remedied, MICHAEL.  Hint hint.

I came downstairs to find Jane kissing herself in the mirror on the floor.  I leave the room for one minute and she becomes Narcissus!  After I sat down to take pictures, she rocked back and forth, going below the mirror, then slowly popping her head back up to see the baby there.  Then going back down below the mirror, then slowly moving back up and locking eyes with the cute baby.

Jane got a dolly from Grandma yesterday, it's baby-sized to her.  Every time we give it to her she smiles at it, grabs it, and gives it kisses!  She kisses it more than she kisses me!  I wonder where she learned all that baby-kissing from.

No shirt, no problem

I had some nice, ripe bananas, and we decided that in order to give Jane the full banana experience, we'd better make the clean up easy.  She went straight into the tub after this.  It sure was fun!

p.s. I watched as Jane pulled herself up to standing all on her own today. Proof that the stand-up fairies aren't doing it for her just before I walk into the room. Big girl!

Legwarmers

I'm glad that it's getting colder so she can rock the legwarmer look.  Yay!

Buttons

Jane turned 8 months old yesterday. I have to keep reminding myself that she's not six months old anymore. I have to find some bigger clothes, too!

One thing that does fit is this onesie with buttons printed on it.  I love them.  We bought this shirt when we found out we were having a girl.  We went to the store to get some girl clothes, and Michael picked this one out.  It's perfect, because she is cute as a button.

Nom Nom Nom

Jane loves to chew on this little green monster toy with boggly eyes.  I love how one eye is always sort of sticking out of her mouth.

One day I was sitting behind her, and I wondered what she was up to, so I snuck around her side to look at her face and she had this toy just sticking out of her mouth, no hands, while she just sat there.  Then she turned her head slightly and gave me this sidelong glance as if to say, "What?"
She is so stinkin' funny.

Giggles

I got this set of plastic rings for Jane, and one of them is maybe 5 inches in diameter and purple. Today while Michael was holding Jane, I picked up the purple ring and put it on top of my head. Nothing. Then I looked through it at Jane. Nothing. Then I put it in front of my mouth and said, "Ahhhh!" And Jane WIGGED out, laughing. She laughed so hard, over and over and over again. Michael and I were crying we were laughing so hard. After awhile I tried to get it on video. She doesn't laugh quite as hard as she did at first, but you get the idea.

Hello My Name Is:

Seeing as how Jane has had a post about her almost every day of her life, there's lots that you probably already know about her.  So my challenge today is to think of 7 things you may not know about Jane.

1. Her very favorite things to play with are things that she is NOT supposed to play with. How does she know? How can she tell the difference between the real phone and the baby toy phone?
2. Whenever her mom and dad are talking about her on the phone, we refer to her as "that baby."
    "How is that baby?"
"Did that baby take her nap?"
    It's a term of endearment.
3. Sometimes she sleeps on her side. I have no idea how she gets that way.
4. One week ago she learned how to crawl, and suddenly she is an expert and we can't baby-proof things fast enough.
5. She'll laugh if she hears someone else laughing, even if she doesn't know why.
6. Her favorite food is pears.
7. She knows how to turn the pages of books and often does it for me while I'm reading her a story.

Surprise

This morning when I went to get Jane from her crib, she was standing up holding on to the rail of the crib. Um, when did she learn how to stand up? The past couple of days she's been pulling herself up on pillows, but just to a bending over position. I thought about running for the camera, but she did not seem to be enjoying the standing up. I think she didn't know how to get back down. Poor girl!

Story Time

Once upon a time there was a cute, cute baby.

With cute, cute feet.

The baby noticed a book nearby.

The book had furry, fuzzy pictures!  The baby liked to feel them.

Then she thought it would be fun to play with the book.

But she didn't see the precipice!

Whoops!

Officially Crawling

Jane started crawling for real today.  I noticed it this morning.  She saw the laptop (her favorite no-no toy) and decided she MUST have it, and she just started army crawling towards it.  Michael noticed her crawl later today, too.  He says she crawled all the way to the staircase!  Amazing!

I must be Irish

Tonight when I came home from work, Jane gave me the most pronounced, definite kiss of any she's ever given so far.  I picked her up and she reached up one hand, turned my face quickly and precisely, and the planted one right on my cheek, for exactly two seconds.  And then she was done.  And not giving out any more kisses, MOM.  So quit asking.

It was absolutely wonderful, though.

Shhh, don't tell Michael

No, honey, I don't know how those finger marks got on the computer screen.

Jane likes Elmo. I think that cute things must attract each other.

I love Daddy

Just the cutest picture ever.

Water

I gave Jane a bath yesterday, her first one outside of the baby tub in the REAL tub.  She learned to splash (fun!), and play with the rubber ducky (pink!), and she also played with the running water from the faucet for a full 10 minutes and learned that she can't catch it and hold it in her hand (very important detail).
Michael gave her a bath today and took a few pictures.  He set the water at a good temperature and left the faucet on, but our pipes like to do what we call the sneaky temperature change of DEATH, and got really hot.  You can see that Jane's hand is red in the picture.
I saw a baby on TV accidentally put her hand into a stream of hot water, and her face crumbled up and she yanked her hand back and started crying.  It broke my heart.
Jane?  She has NO REACTION WHATSOEVER.  She's like, "I bet I could just keep my hand in there until it melts off.  Let's see."  Look how enthralled she is.  She takes after her mama, liking bathwater so much. =)

Finger foods

I didn't realize when Jane got her first tooth a week or two ago, it was actually her FIRST TEETH!  Both of the bottom front teeth came in at the same time.  I don't know whether to be happy that it was two with one blow, or mad that her cold seemed that much worse.  And for some reason I am proud of her, that she has teeth.  She's growing!

I bought a few little crackers that she can gum to death, but with them she's learning how to hold food and feed herself.  Good stuff!

Night vision

It's kind of amazing that my camera can pick up anything when I take these pictures. The room is actually darker than what you see here.

I come in before I go to bed because she likes to kick her blankets off of her legs.  We are out of jammies with legs that fit her right now, and sometimes by the morning her legs are little ice cubes.  She also likes to cover her face with her blankets.  I tried to explain the SIDS danger to her, but she doesn't seem to care.  So I rearrange or add blankets as needed.  But I do love just standing there and watching her sleep for a few moments.  I wonder if we could achieve World Peace if everyone just had a cute little sleeping baby to look at.

When mommy is feeling sick, it seems like everyone feels a little bleh.

Labor Day!

Some of mommy's family came over for Labor Day fun! Jane's favorite part was riding on Uncle Adam's shoulders!

It's a good thing you have all of that hair for her to hold on to!  Check out the way her cute little feet were flexing up.  Riding on shoulders is possibly her favorite thing in the world.

Say NO to crack

I know that I really shouldn't post this, but I've been giggling for five minutes about it.

Here she is giving me the, "Put that camera down and get me in the tub" face:

Can she...?

Come on, Jane.

Almost there!

You did it!  Knees!

Now just to figure out the moving and crawling part!
