Toys

Jane's motor skills are getting more impressive daily! I can't wait for her to actually reach out and grab something. We're getting there!

Smart girl

Ok, so the sleepy photo isn't really genius material. But remember how I said Jane was really getting the hang of the balloon thing? Check it out:

(This kept her entertained for like an hour today. Awesome!)

Sleepy Girl

Today was a crazy day. Mostly for mommy. While Jane isn't congested, she seems a little fussier than usual. I'm glad she's not more sick, but I hope she gets better soon.

Rattle fun

Jane is learning so much. I've been sick this past weekend, and I think Jane caught a bit of my cold (I can't hold off kissing her just because I'm sick!), so I've been looking for distractions for her. She hasn't held on to the rattle very well since that night a couple of months ago. But today she started doing pretty good with it, and of course I took another video:

I apologize for all of the baby talk you have to listen to. It's just cool to see her learning that things happen if she does something like move her arms. Unfortunately, she eventually did hit herself in the face and started screaming, but you'll be glad to know she got back on the horse and rattled again awhile later. =)

More balloon fun

I set the balloon string next to Jane's arms, and she has realized that if she moves her arms around, the balloon moves more. Occasionally she gets the string caught in her hand, and then that balloon really goes flying. She's getting pretty good at it, I can see her learning that if she moves her hand the balloon moves, too. It's pretty amazing.

Balloon

I got this balloon for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. Jane loves to look at it and watch it sway back and forth with the air currents in the room. It's become the perfect mobile - it's easy to move around, it doesn't move too fast for her to follow, and it didn't cost me a thing. =)

First Laugh

I love how her little feet stick out of the swing.

Up to now, Jane has only done one laugh at a time (like "HA!") but not a series of chuckles. Until today! Jane was in the swing smiling at me, and I grabbed her foot and started kissing it, and she did a full-on chuckle! I got the camera and she did it again, if only briefly. Pretty exciting stuff.

Michael told me next time to not laugh over her. Whatever! The other day I was looking at Jane, making the googley-eyes at her, and I hiccuped loudly. I startled Jane, and I startled myself, our eyes both went wide, and then we saw that the other had been startled, and then we both laughed! It was hilarious!

Earth Day

Now that Jane is three months old, we've decided that it's about time she starts wearing her 0-3 month outfits. This one still looks a bit loose on her, though.

Also, Michael has been loving the "last resort" hold - which seems to quiet Jane down even if she's really fussy. There's only one negative side-effect: drippy drool of DOOM.

Jane blows all sorts of bubbles while he's holding her like this, and eventually it all builds up and slooooooowly drips down his arm. EWWWW. Apparently, her not crying is worth it.

April 21

I took another video of Jane cooing and smiling. It just doesn't get old for me.

We also gave the "bumbo" a try since Jane has been holding her head up so well. She looked pretty cute sitting there but this picture doesn't really do it justice. We'll try again next time.

Sleeping Arrangements

We're cutting it close again. It was another big day.

I forgot to mention earlier that I moved Jane's bassinet to her room about 10 days ago. It had been in our room up until then, and I just wanted to give the change a try even though it was a little sad. I was actually planning on bringing her back into our room, but I've become addicted to the new situation. If Michael or I moved the covers or rolled over in bed, sometimes the slight sound would make Jane wake up a little, and now I can move all I want without having to worry about her. Not to mention the times that Michael just sits straight up in bed and starts talking nonsense in his sleep. Plus, in the morning she wakes up and makes little quiet baby noises for a little while before she actually wants to eat, and now I can just sleep through that and she lets me know when she's hungry.

But I'm still kind of sad about it. She's still so liiiittle. I should go give her a hug right now.

April 19

When we took this, it was still April 19 in California, so that counts. :)

Sunday Dress

Okay, so she wore it yesterday, too. But isn't it a great color on her?

I'm so glad church is at 9am - Jane's happy time of day. The little old lady next to me in RS thought Jane was the cutest thing ever. Which she is, but it's nice when other people confirm it. =)

April 17

Aunt Lauren acted as the "baby whisperer" and kept Jane from crying for awhile at Nikki's house today.

April 16

I tried my second full grocery shopping trip with Jane this morning. I usually go when Michael's watching her because the first trip was a disaster (standing in grocery aisles for 10 minutes at a time, studying the soup while trying to get her to stop screaming and fall asleep, then repeat in the next aisle).

But today she was very good, and even slept part of the time! Plus it was nice to have someone to talk to (stare all you want, random hamburger helper stockpile man).

Good baby!

Tax Day

Today Jane did a little giggle while Michael and I were smiling at her, three separate times. Not a full-fledged laugh yet, but we're getting close.

Mommy might have gotten this shirt for Jane while she was birthday shopping last week.

Nonplussed

It's only been two months and Jane seems more like a little kid than a baby a lot of the time. Last night I was watching one of those funny home-video shows on TV, and some guy blew a raspberry on a little baby's tummy. The baby in the video flung his little arms out and looked like "what's happening?" So this morning I decided to try it on Jane as I was changing her out of her jammies. I blew into her tummy and then looked up to see if she thought it was scary or funny, and instead she didn't move and looked at me with an expression that said, "Just what do you think you're doing?"

(This was only a little less humiliating than the time I saw a video on AFV of a kid at the zoo putting his lips up against the glass and a monkey kissing him from the other side... and then I went to the zoo and in a crowded room attempted the same thing, only when the monkey walked by he smacked the glass right where my face was and everyone in the room started laughing.) Sometimes you just can't win.

Fussy

Ok, Nikki, you asked for it: fussy photos!

See? She isn't a perfect baby.

Just kidding - yes she is!

She actually wasn't crying that bad when I took those. We were in a groove tonight and I didn't want to push her to her full "ugly cry." Even so, it broke my heart to stand there snapping pictures of her when she just wanted some love!

Skirt

Mom,
Since I dressed her in black yesterday I figured I'd girl-it-up today for you.

Attitude

It's hard to be sassy when you're so cute.

April 8

Jane is wiggling and cooing next to me on the couch.

Morning snapshot

The sun is coming through the drapes and lighting up all of the delicate little hairs on Jane's face. I'm just watching her sleep (and blogging one-handed). I wonder if she's getting any vitamin D with this diffused light? I'm also debating whether she can make it to the bassinet still asleep so I can get some breakfast. But what's five more minutes?

Mommy's Birthday

Jane learned today that mommies have birfdays, too! But her mommy was borneded a lot longer ago.

Smiles galore

Jane was in a happy mood this morning so I took some video.

Also: she speaks! As I was putting together the first video, she started cooing and squeaking, so I had to take another video. I've hardly ever heard her vocalize this much! Sorry to post so many videos, but if she would quit being so dang cute I'd stop. I thought I'd make this one a little more interesting with some music.

Cute cousins

Grandma Bobbi and Will came over for a quick visit yesterday, and Will got to hold Jane. She LOVED looking up at his face and just stared at him for the longest time.

Will started telling Jane about his day at school, and I had to get a video because I'll be darned if it wasn't the cutest thing I ever saw:
