Cute cute

Today I was singing while I was doing stuff around the house, and I realized after a moment that Jane was singing with me. She was doing these long drawn-out vocalizations going UP and down and cooing. These were way longer than when she usually coos. I can't be sure, but I'd say she was trying to mimic the singing sounds. So cute.

Crib

Michael's been asking me for days, "Don't you think we should move her to the crib?"

I don't know where he got that crazy idea - doesn't he know she's just a tiny baby? But despite my misgivings, today I cleared out the clothes and blankets that had hitherto been living in the crib and packed up the bassinet blankets. My heart only broke a little bit.

My only comfort is that the crib makes her look soo tiny.

Last night in the bassinet?

Dad - we think Jane is okay. Michael is not doing very good, he wrenched his back and hip pretty bad and has big scrapes down his back. But he saved my baby! He is my hero.

May 25

This was taken BEFORE Michael fell down the stairs with Jane in his arms.

On top of that, she has a mom who pokes her in the eye with sharp objects. I'm not sure she's going to make it to adulthood.

May 24

Once I was sleeping on the couch with Jane. I had one hand thrown above my head and the other at my side. I looked down at Jane and she was doing the same thing with the same arms.

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!

Today is our 6-year anniversary. It wasn't quite like last year, seeing as how I spent most of the day with dried spit-up in my hair. But I was eventually able to wash it out and then we went to dinner. I even got flowers, and Michael picked up my favorite: strawberries and Nutella. Win!

Holding the bottle all by herself!? She's not going to need me for anything soon.

May 19

I like the little monkey on her shirt. Jane went to the doctor today for her 4-month checkup and shots. I'm surprised at how well she does with the shots, she didn't cry very hard, and acted more annoyed than upset. Tough girl.

Eyes

Michael and I both have hazel eyes, so I have been totally expecting Jane's eyes to change sometime during this first year. But they are really really sticking with that blue color... it's getting so deep and pretty these days, like the color of the ocean when it's cloudy out. I've decided that if they want to stay blue, it's okay... (but honestly I don't get it).

Lift

Jane held her head up for a really long time while I took these pictures. She's developing so many new things lately.

Learning to touch

This morning Jane was fussing and Michael set her down in her little playset. She happened to grab onto the little toucan, who has crinkly-sounding stuff in his wings, and she snapped her head to look around at the sound and stopped fussing and got mesmerized. Then she let go and then reached her hand back up and squeeeeezed the little doll again. I know that doesn't sound like much, but it's what I've been waiting for - for her to reach out for something intentionally.

I took a video of her, and if you watch her hand, her movements are very deliberate. She reaches up slowly and feels for the little doll, and once she gets ahold of it she squeezes it - it's all kind of amazing since up to now it's just been swatting at things and flailing her arms around hoping to hit stuff like the balloon string.

When I was done taking video I got down in front of her and she started deliberately reaching up and touching my face, something she hasn't ever done before. It was pretty amazing to have the connection of her first intentional touch and see her learning what mommy's face feels like and to watch her little hand move from my nose to chin and cheek. Michael took a video for me:

It's funny how such small and simple things can be such a big deal to me.

May 11

You can tell when it's late at night and I barely remember to take a picture of her. I've only missed 3 days of her life so far. But it makes me wonder: how long should I keep this picture-a-day thing up?

Mother's Day

Today we went to three different sacrament meetings.
One at our home ward.
A second at my mom's ward.
A third at my sister's because she was playing the piano with her son playing violin. How could I miss that?

We used two different mother's rooms.
And saw a total of five other mommies while we were in there.

We heard a total of 8 talks
and none of them were the same!

We got four candy bars
and one flower.

I always wanted one of those flowers!

It was nice to go to mom's ward, because it was my old ward and so many people knew me there. They all were so excited about Jane because somehow all of them knew I had been through a miscarriage. They were very loving, it was really nice.

Except when they looked at her and said,
"Oh, does she take after her Daddy?"

But one person said she looked like me.

Sister Jensen gets 10 points.

Party

We had a party at Aunt Lauren's house to see Grandpa Ross one more time before he goes back to California.

Jane and Ian hung out. They are friends. (Cousins, too) If only there was some visual cue for us to know which was the girl and which was the boy.

Jane decided to show off her 80's style.

Ian thinks she is weird. He is pretty cute himself.

Uncle Adam thinks Ian is cute, too. But you didn't hear that from him.

After noticing that Jane can hold her legs up in the air for long periods of time, Uncle Ryan decided to give her ab workout a try. Guess who gave in first?

Good thing?

I noticed just last week that Jane will look at the TV if it's in front of her. It can entertain her for about 10 or 20 minutes. She likes cartoons better than real people shows. This is her watching Dora.

Jane and I visited cousin Ian today. I can't even tell they're related, can you? =)

This cute dress was a gift from Aunt Jacque!

Cinco de Mayo

Today was pretty eventful. We ran a lot of errands. I accidentally stuck my car key in Jane's right eye. Then I had an emotional breakdown. Then we called the doctor and they said they wanted to see her. Then they did a test and found out that nothing was wrong, she didn't have a scratch. Then I went to work.

None of these pictures show her post-eye-poking, so there's no use looking for the damage! We took some pictures in the morning before we ran errands:

I got Jane a little play area thing that has a mirror. The first time I ever showed Jane herself in a mirror, she broke out into a huge smile. It was so cute! So when she caught sight of herself in this little playset mirror, she started smiling again. She must think that other baby really likes her!

Cute baby!

p.s. I just realized that I have to come back here and delete that part about poking her in the eye before she grows up and reads it and uses it against me.

Jane and Daddy

Jane cracks us up, and I guess the feeling's mutual.

Grandpa Ross and Kathy came to visit Jane today, and she sure had fun!

May Day

A few things for today. First, I have these legwarmers for Jane that I think are super-cute:

Second, I got this new sling that is basically like an 18-foot-long stretch of fabric that you wrap around your body, but it's amazing!

And last, Jane went to visit her Uncle Doug in the hospital today!
Here are the five seconds that she was good for Aunt Erika:

She loves her uncle Doug!
