Duck, Duck, Moose!

We bought this shirt for Jane at the gift shop in Yellowstone. We kept shouting it at her all day long, poor girl. "Duck Duck Moose, heeheehee!"

She did pretty good on the drive home, but when it was finally bedtime, that poor girl was pooped! She fell asleep on me and looked so cute snuggled up that I had to take a picture.

Yellowstone Day 2

Jane slept through most of the photo opps at Yellowstone. This is us waiting for Old Faithful to go off. Although, while we were waiting here, a squirrel terrorized us. It was inside the building and is apparently used to handouts. It came within inches of my legs and even under our chairs, and I was shouting, "Go away!" while Michael shouted, "You have rabies!" which makes me laugh because I don't think that squirrel knew or cared. It was entirely too close to my baby, though, and finally a staff member came and started chasing it around the room. The squirrel led that poor girl on a merry chase.

I thought she'd definitely wake up when we went to Artists Point, but even though we took her car seat out of the car and put it in the stroller, and rolled her all the way to the point, past noisy laughing tourists, she never woke up! She is usually a pretty light sleeper, but I guess she just really needed some beauty rest.

S'mores

Jane didn't have any, but she still had fun at the campfire!

Boat rides, waterfalls, she does it all

And with a pretty good attitude, too!

Yellowstone Day 1

Jane loves playing with her cousins!

This is us at the paint pots, though you can't see them. Jane thought they were pretty cool. It was really windy, though, and her hat flew off into the water next to the pathways. There are all of these signs telling you to stay on the paths because the water will scald you, and I had Jane strapped to my chest (like you see here). I looked ahead and behind me, but no one was near to help, so I just knelt down and tentatively grabbed her hat on a dry spot. I held it in the wind for a moment and when I touched the wet spots... it was ice cold. Still, I'm glad neither of us fell in.

July 22

Michael is giving Jane kisses in this picture.

Poor Jane. I bet she didn't know that she was born into a family of cannibals.

It's true. We love to chomp on parts of her at every opportunity. Feet, knees, elbows, ears, cheeks, hands, neck, tummy, whatever's chubby or sticking out. But Jane does it, too, she's always trying to chomp down on our cheeks! So I guess we had a little cannibal baby. Yum!

Happy Birthday, Michael!

This picture is a fraud, because it was actually taken the morning of the 22nd, not the 21st. But Michael woke up at 5:00pm yesterday and he was up all night... so if you see it from his perspective it was still his birthday. Whatever. I've been missing Jane a ton this week, and last week, and I feel awful about it. Anyway, it was Michael's birthday! Happy Birthday! Grandma watched Jane earlier this week so we could go see a movie that Michael has been DYING to see (Inception). Today Michael got to sleep in way late (part of my gift), and I brought home 5 Guys hamburgers for dinner, which Michael has been talking about for months. Pretty simple, but he says it was a good birthday, hurray!

Twice

Sometimes you have to learn your lesson twice.

No more pictures of Jane after she goes to bed.

Mistake

Taking this picture was a mistake, obviously. I really need to remember to get her picture before she goes to bed. Serves me right for trying this when she hadn't slept very well today.

We love relaxing after church =). And look who's sitting up! (Well, slightly supported).

New Balloon

Daddy got Jane a new balloon! Can you tell which of them is wrapped around the others' finger? =)

Houston, we have Rollover!

Jane rolled over for the first time today! This morning I laid Jane on the floor on her back, and a minute later Michael said, "Breanne...!" and I looked down and she was on her tummy! Neither of us saw her do it, Michael had just looked up from his homework and saw her on her belly. But I did take a picture of the fruit of her labors:

Woo! Later in the day, though, I was lucky enough to catch her SECOND rollover on video. Sorry about the fact that I freak out a little.

Saucer

Somehow when we got the saucer I thought that Jane would never be able to reach the toys; she was so little. But then one day a couple of weeks ago we put her in there and she LUNGED over and just grabbed all the fun toys and started playing with them. It was sort of amazing, that she actually loved all those things put there just for her to have fun.

Special Double Feature

Today we have two videos for you.

First: kissing the baby in the mirror.

Jane has been giving kisses lately. Big, sloppy, wet kisses. It's pretty much the best thing ever. So today when she was laying in the playset, she caught sight of that cute baby in the mirror, and she couldn't help spreading the love a little bit.

Second: she's just not a banana girl.

I gave Jane some more banana today, and she really looked heartbroken when I put that stuff in her mouth. I have NEVER seen her so sad. Seriously, she just looked at me like, "Why would you do that, Mom? Haven't I been a good baby? Am I not being sweet and cute enough? Because why else would you subject me to this mushy torture?"

So later in the day we gave her some watermelon... and holy cow. She couldn't act more differently. She sucked on that baby like there was no tomorrow. She gummed it slowly and I could feel the steady cruunch muunch on the watermelon as the membranes popped, and then she suucked and sucked out the yummy juices. And then she grabbed at it and squeezed it, like possibly she could stuff it any faster into her mouth. At one point she worked off a little corner and started choking, and I had an almost-panic-attack, but she coughed it out. Yes, we are trying to be careful. But how can I deny her when she LOVES it so much?

Favs

This might be one of my favorite pictures of Jane.

Plus, look who loves her toes!

Tummy time

Michael is really good about giving Jane "tummy time," and look how well she can hold her head up!

So tired

Jane is sooo tired today. It's so sad when she rubs her eyes with her little hands, but it's also sooo cute.

Banana day

I decided to officially give Jane a fruit - some mushed up banana. I think it's really the first thing you're supposed to give (not plums and pineapple!). So I got Michael out of bed and got the camera to document the special occasion and... it was really anti-climactic. She didn't like it, and made a sad face at me when I put some in her mouth. So after several tries we gave up and Michael went back to bed. Bananas will have to be an acquired taste.

Here she is pre-banana:

Baby crunches

Jane has started trying to sit up, but she only makes it an inch off the ground, so it looks like she's doing baby crunches. Cute!

Today she was playing with her foot, but then she stretched out and her foot went away and she started crying. So I grabbed her foot and handed it back to her and she was happy again. Simple pleasures!

Plus, Michael is finding new ways to multi-task! (That is a game controller in his hand)

Progress!

Independence day

Jane tasted pineapple today! We are exploring new foods slowly. I started giving her a little rice cereal this last week, which she enjoys. It's fun to see her open up her mouth when the spoon comes close - she's getting it slowly! A few days ago I was eating a plum and Jane was watching me so intently as I moved the plum back and forth to my mouth, so I rubbed my finger in the juice and let her taste it. It's funny, she gets really still and sticks her tongue out and tastes and tastes.

So today when I was sharing some pineapple that I cut up with my mom, she suggested that I let Jane taste a piece. We were expecting her to flinch from the citrus, but she got really still again and licked it, and then brought her hand to her mouth to try to push it in farther! She chomped on it, too, and basically licked it to death. We went through three pieces before I called it quits, though I think she wanted to keep going. How's that for Independence day, my little girl growing up!

4th on the 3rd

A lot of people celebrated July 4th on the 3rd this year. We went to Aunt Erika's house to watch fireworks. Jane sure loved watching the bright lights, but she wasn't crazy about the loud whistling sounds. It was so dark it was impossible to get a non-blurry picture, so this is the best I could do:

She was happy to get back home and to bed! (So was mommy)

Timber!

Jane is trying to get the hang of sitting up by herself, but she's not quite there.

She gets by with a little help from her mom.
Check out those baby blues!

Bad Day

Jane has had a really bad day, and not just because I made her wear this. But she is finally fitting into her 3-6 month clothes pretty well! It's just too bad that the bulk of them are winter clothes. So some things I'm making her at least try on before they go out of use. But for Jane, it was just the cherry on top of a steaming pile of bad day. Poor Janie!
